sunday resets - clean or relax?

the way to do both
When Sunday rolls around, we're often caught between two choices: should I clean and prep for the week ahead.. or simply rest and recharge? The truth is, we need both.
tidy space - tidy mind
Cleaning our space provides room for more efficient thinking. This is what I refer to as 'space in mind' due to the fact that the nature of our physical surroundings can determine our mental efficiency. As a soon-to-be psychology graduate, trust me when I tell you that your environment matters. There have been countless studies done on college students and the cleanliness of their rooms in parallel to their academic standing, as well as their social life. Even if you're not in college, your environment is your space to relax and reset.
your nervous system deserves care
As much as we would love to be productive 24/7, it's simply not possible. Our fuel runs out, and to recharge, the rest is required. Resting means a lot more than simply sleeping. This can include anything that resets your nervous system to a calm state. This may include: eating, reading, being outside, and any other hobbies that require little energy. A good metaphor that I like to use is that batteries do not stay charged forever; their energy eventually dies out.
a balanced reset - half clean, half rest
Your Sunday deserves to be restful as well as productive. Here's a concept of a simple Sunday flow split in half.
morning - clean
after a nice restful sleep, make your bed
let the light in
eat a light breakfast
focus on the tasks you despise first (dishes, laundry, etc.)
put on some high-energy music to keep you moving
track your calories you burned (this can feel rewarding)
plan for next Sunday
afternoon & night - rest
after a deep clean, light a candle to begin your relax time
prioritize self-care (take a shower/bath, skincare, etc.)
catch up on things you have been wanting to do
cozy up and read, binge your favorite show/movie, or
try something new
eat a delicious meal
get a restful night's sleep for the busy week
key takeaway
This simple Sunday flow allows for both productivity as well as rest. A balanced reset gives you both a refreshed home and a restored self. As important as that pile of laundry may seem, you are worth more.
So for your next weekend, instead of choosing to clean or rest, do both. Intentional and in your own rhythm. Feel free to @ us if you try our 'Simple Sunday Flow' on our socials.
a worthy consideration
